PLAS-TEX® THICK PANELS
DESCRIPTION
Fiberglass-free PLAS-TEX
panels are waterproof, stain & chemical
resistant. They are USDA compliant and accepted
by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
When installed
with caulked moldings, PLAS-TEX
panels form a moisture resistant, sanitary,
low maintenance wall surface.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
The following general instructions
are for installing PLAS-TEX
panels. This guide will help you select
the other materials necessary for a successful
installation. Always follow all adhesive,
sealant and fastener manufacturer's instructions
carefully. If you have installation questions
not answered in this instruction sheet,
please call our toll free number 800-835-4110
between 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. E.S.T.
on week days.
PLAS-TEX thick panels should be installed in much the same way that you would another heavy panel. You will need to use both adhesive and mechanical fasteners. If it is desirable to have the visible surface without perforations, the mechanical fasteners can be placed around the periphery of the panel and concealed behind 2-piece dividers, caps, coves, outside corners or other moldings.
Predrill the hole for installing the mechanical fastener (stainless steel screws are preferred). Countersinking the screw is strongly recommended. White nylon rivets may also be useful in some situations, such as over substrates like concrete or foam, where screws will not have much holding power.
Adhesive should also be used wherever possible. Parkland Panel Adhesive works well where complete coverage is possible. For installation over studs or purlings a high performance tube-type adhesive, such as our #105 polyurethane adhesive works well. For installation over wood, adhesives like Liquid Nails Construction adhesives may also provide satisfactory results.
STORAGE & CONDITIONING
Panels must be stored flat on a clean, dry surface. Panels should be pre-conditioned for at least 24 hours at heat and humidity conditions that represent temperature and moisture levels for the area after construction is complete.
ALLOWING FOR MOVEMENT
PLAS-TEX panels expand
and contract with changes in temperature.
Allowing for this movement is very important.
LEAVE A MINIMUM OF 1/8"
BETWEEN AND 1/4" AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF
EACH PANEL.
CUTTING & FITTING
PANELS
Unlike other panels, PLAS-TEX
panels contain no fiberglass or other irritants.
They can be scored and snapped similar to
drywall and cut with sheet metal shears.
If sawing, use a fine toothed blade. Cut-outs
such as for switches should be drilled at
the corners to distribute stress. Test the
panel fit by placing it in position without
adhesive. Be careful to leave appropriate
gap at panel edges. Do not fit panels too
tightly in moldings.
CUTTING & FITTING
MOLDINGS
PVC moldings can be cut with
razor knife, fine toothed saw or metal shears.
Moldings can be applied by coated lath nails
and/or adhesive. If nails only are used,
backing material must have adequate holding
ability. Do not fit panels too tightly in
moldings. Allow at least 1/8" in all channels
for panel expansion after installation is
completed. For a watertight installation,
a continuous bead of sealant must be run
in all molding channels and mating flanges.
Moldings should surround all edges of every
panel. Excess sealant "squeeze out" can
be cleaned off while fresh.
